“The Blind Side,” starring Sandra Bullock and based on the true story of NFL athlete Michael Oher, will be shown Sunday; “Evan Almighty,” about a man (Steve Carell) summoned by God to build an ark, is scheduled for Aug. 8; and the Aug. 15 film will be “Bananas,” a Woody Allen movie about a man who travels to Latin America and becomes involved in a rebellion. Grace United Methodist Church, 912 E. Pine St., will host its fourth annual God’s Clothes Closet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 7. God’s Clothes Closet offers free clothes to community members in need. Last year’s event attracted more than 250 customers.

Barbershop singers The Nittany Knights with special guest Anything Goes will perform as part of the Music Picnic Series at South Hills School of Business and Technology.
The free, outdoor concerts are held rain or shine at South Hills’ main campus at 480 Waupelani Drive. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and a picnic supper. Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania Charter School recently was awarded a $3,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to conduct hands-on environmental education regarding watersheds and wetlands for their students.
The existing wetlands and organic garden on the school’s property will be utilized to conduct lessons for students and to expand the use of the wetlands to a full environmental education unit for both fourth and eighth grades in 2010. The wetlands also are open to the public.
In conjunction with Hoss’s Family Steak and Sea House, The Second Mile recognizes local foster parents for their generosity and honors their contributions to children in need and the community as a whole with a Hoss’s gift card.
This year, The Second Mile, Centre County Children and Youth Services and Hoss’s will honor five couples and individuals who have reached five-, 10-, 15- and 20-year service milestones. They include: Dave and Soni Mater (five years), Kim and Ranee Johnson (10 years), Jeff and Lesa Yeager (10 years), Douglas and Janet Schaufler (15 years) and Marggie Kozak (20 years).
